Dr. Christine Cantwell DC

Family Chiropractor

Growing up on the North Island of New Zealand gave me a strong connection with nature and an understanding of the relationship between individual health and societal well-being.  As I matured, both in New Zealand and the Bay Area, my core values grew deeper: Harmony.  Balance.  Connection.  Nature.

Dr. Christine Cantwell specializes in gentle chiropractic care for moms and babies

When I was 19, while hiking along the Pacific Crest Trail, I had an “ah-ha!” moment: my life goal and purpose is to help people connect to the miracle and complexity of nature – both within and beyond our own bodies.  This interest has deepened into a real desire to inspire people to live completely and express their full health potential.

There are many approaches to healing: why chiropractic? For me, it’s both personal and scientific.  In order to heal, our bodies must release shock, trauma, and other forms of holding. Following a severe burn when I was 26 years old, a friend suggested I see a chiropractor.  With one gentle adjustment to the base of my skull, I immediately felt my breath return, and blood flow and life energy coming back into my body.  It was powerful – and inspiring.

My approach focuses on helping your body help itself.  Regaining physical well-being is the first step to thriving in all aspects of life. When we are free of pain and our nervous system is in balance, we perceive the world around us more clearly and can make positive choices for ourselves, our community and the world around us. My goal is to help people reach this state.

To achieve balance and sustainable healing in the body, I use a holistic approach called Bio Geometric Integration (BGI): a combination of light touches and deeper adjustments to release tension patterns that have accumulated over time in the body.  BGI focuses on locating your body’s inherent strengths and reconnecting the whole through breath and subtle movements – building energy and potential for release, rather than focusing only on the “dis-eased” part.

Think of your body as a family: rather than just focusing on the “bad kid” that’s acting out in a family dynamic, I help bring healthy communication to the whole family (the whole body) in order to address the underlying causes of conflict and tension, and to restore understanding and healthy connection.

Pregnancy care: one of my deepest passions in healing is working with mothers and babies.  Adjusting the mother’s pelvis during pregnancy ensures that her pelvic bones are balanced and freely moving, giving space for the baby to move into the ideal position for a smooth, safe birth. Faster easier births, with less stress on Mom and baby.

True preventive care begins with infancy and early childhood. Often the first spinal trauma occurs at birth, through pressures on the infant’s head and neck. Children respond quickly and easily to chiropractic care, releasing spinal stresses which, if left unaddressed, can become deeply ingrained lifelong patterns.
